This is an exciting opportunity to join our Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. You will lead in your portfolio area, as well as actively contributing to our collective leadership goals to deliver long term improvement and sustainable services for Wrexham County Borough Council.

These portfolios cover some of our most visible and important services. You will advise the Chief Executive and Elected Members on key issues and strategies as well as leading some of our most important change work, and other partnership projects.

Expectations will be high both within and outside the Council but collective accountability and strong support will be provided.

Post 1 Chief Officer Governance & Customer (*Monitoring Officer)

Salary range £90,421 – £101,058 (Relocation Policy applies)

It’s exciting times in Wrexham, at the beginning of a new Council term you will continue to build on the success we have achieved to date, by leading the services on their improvement journey and your job will be to make it as smooth a ride as possible. There is an established team of senior officers in place, each employed because of their expertise, values, focus and commitment to Wrexham.

You will be experienced in championing and delivering innovative customer services interfaces across the organisation, including digital.

You will have the ability to lead on the democratic process and supporting members in fulfilling their role, including advising members of the democratic functions, including the scrutiny function of the Council, enabling the Council’s statutory requirements to be met and fulfil the role of the Council’s Monitoring Officer.

You will oversee the provision of high quality legal advice to elected members and senior colleagues, ensuring that legal risk is identified and managed. You will have sound judgement and an appreciation of the political context, ensuring that key decisions are well-informed.

You will be resilient and demonstrate impeccable standards of professionalism in this high profile role.

You will have the ability to make tough decisions and resolve issues as they arise. You are required to operate in a political climate, so you will have the skills and experience to understand the Welsh political context, including devolved and legal matters as well as having an appreciation of the importance of the Welsh culture.

You are expected to be a role model who demonstrates the required values and behaviours and leads by example, with the professional skills and knowledge to build effective relationships and partnerships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You will be an excellent ambassador who is passionate about strengthening our services in Wrexham and who will embrace the culture and heritage of both the area and Wales as a whole.

Post 2 Chief Officer Economy & Planning

Salary range £90,421 – £101,058 (Relocation Policy applies)

It’s exciting times in Wrexham with bids in for City of Culture and City Status as part of a developing Place Making approach, that already includes a successful Levelling Up Fund Bid. You will continue to build on the success we have achieved to date, by leading the services on their improvement journey and your job will be to make it as smooth a ride as possible. There is an established team of senior officers in place, each employed because of their expertise, values, focus and commitment to Wrexham.

You will excel in leading strategic development and regeneration initiatives both regionally and nationally that drive prosperity and deliver our ambitious vision for Wrexham as a place to live, work and visit through our business development, physical regeneration, tourism, heritage and culture.

You will have the ability to lead the production and implementation of the Council’s Local Development Plan, reflecting the needs of the citizens and communities of Wrexham

You will have extensive experience of delivering complex, strategic work and have excellent stakeholder management skills. You will be resilient and demonstrate impeccable standards of professionalism in this high profile role.
